(original lyrics by OOHS!) can’t control, i can’t control myself it’s coming up, coming around the bend
2.
(original lyrics by OOHS!) the windscreen plays our favourite show where we watch horizons scroll takes us where we want to go wheels they skip, wheels they roll heading straight out for the line where the ocean meets the skies sounds so smooth, sands so fine and the sun is in my eyes and you know I’m always ready we’ll drive to the edge of the world and jump right down
3.
(original lyrics by OOHS!) a tree-lined street with stooping lights on fevered asphalt manholes sigh but I can’t sleep tonight i want to reach out for the sky with the windows open wide my head is lighter than a cloud i want to melt into the night her silence echoing so loud there is sadness in hair the stars don’t sparkle in her stare her eyes they danced in the moonlight now they never shine so bright but it’s just fine, it’s alright i’m her lonely supersonic satellite i lay star-shaped on the lawn as she whispers through the pines my sweet arcadia until dawn this whole world is hers and mine she once was the queen of hearts the night, she smashed them all to shards now she hides far out of sight behind a veil of smoke and light but it’s just fine, it’s alright the night she holds me close, she holds me oh so tight but we’re just fine, till break of light i’m her lonely supersonic satellite
4.
(original lyrics by OOHS!) plastic bottles on the evening tide dancing in the glow setting sun slides out of frame surf is rocking slow pebbles on the seabed droning static in my head stars like astral stubs of a billion cigarettes another crashing wave another crushing bore the tide will wash away but still come back for more the byrds they fly, eight miles high gliding out of reach branches sway, hit replay neil young’s “on the beach” mind is shuttered, thoughts unruddered floating on the breeze it’s all fine, i rewind sunburnt memories another crashing wave another crushing bore we dream it all away but still come back for more another crashing wave another crushing bore fading day by day we all wash ashore

about

Tropic Of Cancel is our summer record, in the sense that it took us all summer to write and record, and in a way became our own little getaway portal.

July through September of this year we would get together, usually late in the evening, and attempt to divine songs from fragments of hazy melodies and sounds.

Like all getaways it starts with a sudden rush of euphoria and anticipation, goes for broke with overreaching romanticism, then sprawls with woozy comedown ennui and surrenders to sun bleached melancholy, only to dive head-first into the twilight of the unknown.

It was only while putting the final touches to the record that we realized that we had unintentionally traced the arc of a lost summer and preserved it in aspic, or magnetic tape, in this case.

Now it comes to you in the brisk chill of December, with the hope that some of that sticky summer daze will come oohs!-ing out of your headphones.
